Cocaine in the soles of her shoes

2014-01-25 00:00

A 28-YEAR-OLD woman appeared in court yesterday after being found in possession of cocaine with a street value of R282 000 at King Shaka International Airport on Wednesday.

SAPS King Shaka International Airport and Customs Officials were working jointly on profiling and processing the international passengers on a flight from Dubai, when they came across a woman coming from Brazil to South Africa via Dubai.

The passenger and her luggage were searched. Upon searching the takkies she was wearing, police found the inner sole of the takkies was removable and was covered with black duct tape.

Police cut the tape and powder cocaine weighing 0,94 kilograms was found.

Police said preliminary investigations revealed that the drugs were to be taken to a 41-year-old man who was also arrested at a Durban hotel.

Both suspects were due to appear in the Verulam Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

“I am pleased with the successes thus far but am aware that we still have a long way more to go.

“Our members are motivated and positive and are doing their utmost to cripple the drug trade in the province,” said Lieutenant-General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, the KwaZulu-Natal provincial commissioner.

NPA spokesperson Natasha Ramkisson said that the accused was remanded into custody.
