College and Michaelhouse favourites in today’s encounters

2012-05-19 00:00

THERE are some keen matches between the KZN schools on the hockey pitches today.

The games between Northwood and DHS, Maritzburg College against Hilton and Treverton against Clifton should all be worthy of watching.

Northwood and DHS have both played against St Davids, Kearsney and Maritzburg College, and the results indicate that there is not much to distinguish between the two teams. Northwood may be slightly stronger up front and with home support could be slight favourites.

College had played an early season game against Hilton, which they won comfortably. College have also developed over the season, arguably more than Hilton have and thus they are clear favourites to win for the second time.

Treverton have done quite well in against the second-tier sides, but today they meet Clifton, who have largely played against the top tier. This experience should prove valuable against Treverton.

St Charles will have a tough game against St Davids, who lost by a goal against Kearsney and beat Westville. St Charles will need to be at their best to beat the Gauteng team.

Michaelhouse should be favourites against St Johns, while Kearsney will be pushed by St Stithians, but should be able to outscore them.

Westville, in Johannesburg against KES, have a very tough game ahead. Not only have KES played more matches than most schools, but they have also been highly successful, losing only to Maritzburg College and Wynberg — arguably the top two teams in the country.
