College basketball side end season with a century score

2013-11-12 00:00

MARITZBURG College saved their best for last on the basketball court on the weekend, posting a century in their final game of the season against Westville.

Playing at Westville, the College boys ran amok in a comprehensive 100-35 win.

College were in control from the start, building a healthy 38-16 lead by the end of the second quarter.

Heading into the final quarter, they were 64-23 to the good and it became a question of whether they would reach the century mark.

As the clock ticked down, they were on 97 points with five seconds remaining. Coach Arnold Moseya called a time-out and instructed his charges how to get the three points needed.

It worked a treat as a side throw went cross court, then back to Shaq Magubane who found the hoop and bought up the 100 points.

Thoza Sineke top scored for College with 23 points to his name. He received great support from Sphe Buthelezi (15 pts), Brad Muil (14 pts) and Thingo Tshabalala (13 pts).

It was a fine way for College to end their season and their supporters added to the occasion by rushing onto the court and performing the College shout.
