Collegians make strong claim for promotion

2011-08-27 00:00

MARITZBURG Collegians first XV made another strong claim that they are worthy of promotion to the KZN Premier Division after losing a nail-biting Murray Cup quarter-final 13-12 to top-tier side Zululand Rhinos.

The bigger picture sees KZN First Division champs PMB Collegians tackle Premier Division wooden spoonists Jaguar for promotion to the top division in a much-anticipated clash at Jags’ stronghold in Sydenham on Saturday, September 10.

The 2010 Murray Cup finalists, Old Boys and reigning champions College Rovers, will meet in the first of the semi-final matches at 1.30 pm today at Crusaders in Ranleigh Crescent, Durban North. The second semi-final match at Saders ground sees Durban Collegians against Zululand at 3.30 pm today.

In the Junior Murray Cup quarter-finals, Jaguars beat Ballito Dolphins 22-10, Harlequins hammered Richards Bay 50-16 and Vryheid outplayed Hillcrest 52-12. Ladysmith pulled out of their last-eight match, so Amanzimtoti will face Vryheid in the semi-finals. Jaguars will play Harlequins.

The last-four matches are also played at Saders today.
