Collision: Biker stable after three-way crash

2013-02-22 00:00

A MOTORCYCLIST was in a stable condition yesterday evening after being struck by an ER24 vehicle on the corner of Prince Alfred and Chief Albert Luthuli streets yesterday.

Robert Sithole, whose Volvo was struck by the motorcycle, said the driver of a bakkie going along Chief Albert Luthuli Street was at fault. She had crashed into the ER24 vehicle, which had sounded its sirens while crossing the intersection

After being hit, the ER24 car collided with the motorcyclist, which then hit Sithole’s Volvo.

“My car’s damaged. There’s water coming out of the radiator,” Sithole said.

He said that if the motorist in the bakkie had been driving at an “acceptable” speed, she would have been able to slow down.

A woman who gave her name only as Heidi said she was two cars from where the crash happened.

“The bakkie either didn’t hear or see the ER24 vehicle,” she said. “After the crash, my immediate concern was for the biker. But the paramedics got out very quickly and attended to him. He was okay,” she said.

There were no serious injuries reported.

The ER24 vehicle was following an ambulance to attend to an emergency.
