Collision: Six killed on R603

2013-05-18 00:00

SIX people were killed in a crash involving three vehicles on the R603 Umbumbulu road last night.

Zinhle Mngomezulu of RTI said the accident involved a tractor, car and bakkie.

“We believe that one of the vehicles was trying to overtake and there was a collision,” she said.

All the people killed were from the bakkie.

Traffic on the Umbumbulu Road was heavy yesterday after the Durban-bound N3 was closed for several hours following a collision between a chemical tanker and a bakkie near the Pavilion. Both drivers were taken to hospital in a serious condition.

Kwanele Ncalane of the Transport Department said the freeway had to be closed because the truck was carrying Ethanol, which was leaking onto the road.

Traffic was diverted to the M7.
