Collision: car driver was speeding, say police

2009-12-10 00:00

A MOTORIST was seriously injured yesterday morning at the Church Street and Du Toit Viljoen Road intersection when he lost control of his vehicle and collided with a truck.

The vehicles collided with such force that the car’s front end was crushed beneath the truck’s front bumper.

The car was heading towards Ohrtmann Road while the truck was headed towards Church Street.

Eyewitnesses said the motorist was coming down Du Toit Viljoen Road and may not have seen the truck approaching in time.

The truck swerved to the left to avoid another truck that was parked on the side. The collision occured when the motorist swerved in the same direction.

The car was extensively damaged. Both vehicles had to be towed away.

Captain Linda Ngubane, who attended the scene, said the car was travelling at an excessive speed.

Ngubane said, “The driver was taken to hospital with serious chest injuries.”
