Comrades Marathon: Novice entries fill up in just 27 hours

2009-11-03 00:00

IF you haven’t got your entry form for the 2010 Comrades Marathon in already, it’s too late.

It took just 27 hours for 5 000 novice runners to get their entries in for the 2010 Comrades Marathon.

The Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) said yesterday they were bowled over at the response they got when novice entries opened on Sunday.

Gary Boshoff, CEO for the CMA, said that after the overwhelming response, entry for the 2010 Comrades Marathon is now officially closed.

Any novice runner who posted his or her entry by close of business yesterday will still be accepted if the envelope is post-marked and dated November 2, 2009.

“Should a postal entry be post-marked and dated after November 2, 2009, the entry will not be accepted,” Boshoff said.

“I was confident that we would receive 5 000 novice entries within a four-week period, but never anticipated that we would reach the 5 000 threshold within 27 hours of opening the entry process for novices … Congratulations to all the successful entrants and good luck on your quest to complete ‘The Ultimate Human Race,’” said Boshoff.

“The total number of entries could well be in excess of 20 000 runners since postal entries will take approximately 10 working days to arrive at the CMA offices,” he said.
