Comrades aim to raise R5 mln

2010-11-12 00:00

IN an innovative scheme launched yesterday, the Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) hopes to raise over R5 million for the official charities through their Amabeadibeadi programme.

“To date the race has only ever managed to raise around R1,4 million for the charities … we feel there is much more that can be done,” says Peter Proctor, CMA chairperson.

One thousand of the 18 000 available entries have been secured for charity runners who will have to raise a minimum of R5 000 for their entry. This will entitle them to be bumped forward at the start and they will also receive a special prestigious high-value goodie bag at registration.

Runners wanting to donate their efforts to the charities will register from the Comrades page to www.race4charity.co.za where they can receive messages of support and make donations.
