Comrades entries start strong

2014-09-02 00:00

IF the first 24 hours of race entries are anything to go by, the 2015 Comrades Marathon will be the most anticipated yet.

According to Comrades media liaison Kyle Govender, entries are up by over a thousand from last year after a full day after entries opened.

“Based on our numbers from last year, we had 1 752 entries in the first 24 hours. This year we already have 2 720 entries from midnight up until 4.30 pm on Monday [yesterday],” he said. “I am pretty sure we will reach the runner cap before entries close,” he added.

Runners that have qualified to enter the race have up until November 30 or until the race cap has been reached to register to run the race.

Next year’s Comrades is the 90th edition of the global running showpiece.

It is also the tougher “up run”, which starts in Durban and finishes in Pietermaritzburg.
