Comrades reaches its target early

2009-10-28 00:00

ENTRIES for the first phase of the 2010 Comrades Marathon officially closed yesterday, as the 15 000 entries target has been reached and no late applications will be entertained. That’s according to Comrades Marathon Association CEO Gary Boshoff.

The first phase was the designated 15 000 places available for returning runners.

Boshoff said that runners who posted their entry forms by close of business yesterday will be accepted as long as the entries bear a Post Office postmark.

The official entry figure will be released once all the entries have been received and captured.

Boshoff said the positive response shows that the Comrades Marathon is still a popular brand. “I am ecstatic at the positive response from the loyal Comrades runners in reaching the 15 000 threshold with four days to spare before 31 October.

“This is indicative of the strength of the Comrades brand and the special place the Comrades Marathon occupies in the local as well as global sport arena.”

Boshoff reminded the novice runners who wish to run in the Comrades Marathon next year that their applications will be open from November 1 and will close on November 30.

People wishing to enter can do so online at www.comrades.com or at any Mr Price retail store countrywide.
