Contrite stabber attacked

2011-07-06 00:00

MEMBERS of the Gamalakhe community have attacked a man who had gone to his victim’s home to apologise to his parents for stabbing their son to death last Saturday in an altercation outside the Bayside Tavern in Gamalakhe.

Vigilantes grabbed the suspect on Sunday when he and his parents, visited the home of Madoda Sosibo to show remorse for what he had done.

The group started to beat him up. Police and some elderly people had to rescue him from the mob and he was arrested.

The community of Gamalakhe, especially those in ward 28, have expressed concern about the high incidence of crime around the taverns where most of the patrons carry knives. On Sunday another young man was stabbed in the same vicinity.

Members of the community are calling on the owners of the bottle store and the Bayside Tavern to ensure that they provide security in their areas.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Phumzile Makaula confirmed the incident on Saturday had been reported. The two men were involved in an argument about alcohol near the Tavern, which allegedly led to Mlondolozi Mbhele stabbing Sosibo twice in the stomach before running away.

“Madoda was taken to the Gamalakhe Clinic where he died,” said Makaula. “Mlondolozi had been arrested and charged with murder and has appeared in the Ramsgate court.”
