Cope: party to probe ‘conspiracy’ e-mail

2010-07-12 00:00

THE leadership battle in the Congress of the People (Cope) is being waged at the level of a concerted dirty tricks campaign

This weekend a press release purportedly from Cope’s KZN Youth chairperson Mthokozisi Myende said two white provincial leaders from the party had resigned after their “conspiracy” to overthrow the KZN chairperson was exposed.

This was followed by a denial from Niki Moore, the party’s provincial spokesperson, who called the earlier statement “a hoax”.

Moore said the e-mail address in the first statement was not Myende’s, but a general mail account “deliberately created in order to cause confusion.” She said Cope will be launching a probe to find out from where the mail originated.
