2009-06-29 00:00

LOVERS’ tiffs ended in death for two Pietermaritzburg women who were allegedly strangled by their lovers in the Copesville area yesterday morning.

Both women are believed to have been about 35 years old,.

Policesaid the murders are not related.

Senior Superintendent Henry Budhram said the first incident was reported at around 7 am in Swapo, an informal settlement close to Copesville. The woman, who by yesterday was identified only as Mavis, had been visiting her boyfriend.

The couple, who allegedly had a history of domestic violence, were earlier heard fighting by witnesses before the woman was attacked.

Police were later called out to the area again, this time to Scania Road in Copesville, after a 35-year-old married woman was strangled by a 19-year-old man.

The pair are believed to have been involved in an extramarital affair.

By yesterday, the names of the deceased had not been released as the families had not yet been notified.

Two men were arrested and are expected to appear in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court today on charges of murder.
