THIEVES who helped themselves to a few cases of cool drinks off the back of a delivery truck barely had time to take a swig before the police nabbed them.

Police spokesperson Colonel Jay Naicker said a cold drink delivery truck was travelling through Ematsheni’s B Location in Bergville on Sunday, just after midnight, when it was stopped by a group of people.

The occupants of the truck were threatened with a firearm and one of them was injured when he was assaulted with a bottle.

“The suspects then allegedly proceeded to steal several cases of cool drinks off the truck. Police immediately began their investigation, which led them to home in the surrounding area.”

He said at about 10 am that morning, they had rounded up and arrested the suspects, recovered a large quantity of the stolen cool drinks and three cellphones.

A licensed firearm believed to have been used in the robbery was also retrieved. The suspects, aged between 19 and 35 years old, are expected to appear in the Bergville Magistrate’s Court today.
