Cosatu website virus alert

2009-05-23 00:00

“DO not log on to the Cosatu web site until further notice, unless you have good anti-virus protection.” That was the warning from the union, who were nursing a virus problem yesterday afternoon after someone added corrupt code to their website.

Dominic Tweedie, the editor of the union’s Shopsteward magazine, said he received a warning box on his screen when he tried to log into the website www.casatu.org.za.

When he bypassed the warning, the malicious virus -generated code was downloaded into his computer, but his anti-virus software was able to catch it before it could destroy his files.

He could not say who was behind the virus but said their service provider, Telkom, was working on the problem.

“I have been told that the virus is not a direct attack on Cosatu … but we can’t leave people exposed,” he said.
