2010-01-06 00:00

ONE of the suspects connected to the murder of a Nongoma councillor was shot dead by the police on Monday.

Five men were suspected of gunning down Nathi Mthethwa last year

Three of the suspects were arrested and the fourth one was killed during the taxi violence in the area. Number five on the list, Skhumbuzo Zikhali, was still on the run when he met his death.

Provincial police spokeswoman Director Phindile Radebe said Durban organised crime unit members entered a house in the Sundumbili area near Mandeni after receiving a tip-off. As they entered the house the 31-year-old suspect opened fire on them. They shot back, wounding him fatally. A 9 mm pistol was found in the suspect’s possession, she said.
