Countdown to 2010: SA marks 100 days to kick-off

2010-03-01 00:00

TOMORROW there will be just 100 days left until the Fifa World Cup.

The day will be commemorated officially with an extravagant celebration at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

“We came to Durban to get a commitment from the city and province to host this milestone event,” said Danny Jordaan, CEO of the Local Organising Committee, in January this year.

Those who cannot make it to Durban are encouraged to observe the Fly the Flag initiative.

The National Communications Partnership has “called upon South Africans to demonstrate their excitement for the tournament …”

Fly the Flag recommends four ways in which people can become 2010-ready.

The first is to “join the party” by celebrating on the day.

Fly the Flag encourages South Africans to stop their working days at noon to sing the national anthem, blow vuvuzelas or do the Diski Dance.

A step-by-step guide on the dance is available at www.southafrica.info

The third step is to support Football Fridays by wearing a South African team jersey.

The last step is to spread the word by encouraging others to get 2010-ready too.
