Couple’s world tour of finding family arrives in Howick

2008-05-12 00:00

Long lost relatives met for the first time at Amber Valley in Howick last week.

Andrew Forson and his wife Rosemary have been on a two-month world tour to trace his relatives who share a common great, great grandfather (David Forson). They have already visited in Australia and the United States.

And last week they met Gwyn Sprake (née Forson) and her husband John in Howick.

Andrew, who lives in England, started tracing his roots in 2000 after he retired. He discovered that his family originates from Scotland.

Strangely enough, Gwyn also happens to be interested in tracing her ancestry. “I have even compiled a book about my family’s history and our family tree,” she said over a cup of tea.

“It must run in the family,” said Andrew, adding that it isn’t all that common for people to be as interested in meeting up with their distant relatives after tracing them.

But Andrew and Rosemary said it was not awkward meeting with their relatives. “Everyone that we have met has been very inviting and we have really enjoyed our visits.”
