Court:Top cop’s son charged

2008-05-26 00:00

A student police constable who is the son of a top Pietermaritzburg policeman appeared briefly in the magistrate’s court yesterday in connection with charges that he drove a police motor vehicle without consent and stole another state vehicle last year.

Siphakamiso Muziwavuka Gcumisa (20), the son of the station commissioner at Alexandra Road, Director Daniel Gcumisa, is on bail of R300.

He is alleged to have used a vehicle without the consent of the owner or person in charge of it, namely Msawenkosi Pius Mbambo, or the SA Police Services on May 1 this year.

Yesterday, the state added a further charge of theft of a vehicle, also a police vehicle, last year. No further details of that charge were available yesterday.

He was not asked to plead.
