Craft Bazaar: Fewer uKhamba with new patterns will be snapped up

2012-11-28 00:00

THE 18th annual Witness Craft Bazaar opens in the Edgars court at Liberty Midlands Mall at 9 am tomorrow.

With over 40 craft organisations and individuals represented, several of the old favourites are back, and there’s a bright new range of colourful craft to be had at this year’s event.

There’s a great new range of wonderful soft toy monsters for children, along with teddies, and back to school funky folders, notebooks and files. Bargain hunters will delight in Christmas decorations costing as little as R2,50, and investors will find ceramics topping the charts at over R3 000.

The men’s gift range has plenty to choose from, from hand-carved walking sticks to Nguni leather jackets and recycled beer bottles which have been transformed into tableware fit for the bar or dining room table. The ever popular Magwaza pots (uKhamba) are in short supply this year, due to weather issues, but a selection have arrived, ranging from tiny in size to enormous. Other pots from an offshoot of the Nala family in Northern KwaZulu-Natal have also arrived, featuring new designs that make these uKhamba highly collectable.

The Bazaar remains open until Monday 3. Credit card payments are accepted and patrons are thanked in advance for making a difference by supporting local crafters.
