Craig Joubert and other sporting stars expected to attend Hospice fund raiser

2012-11-28 00:00

CRAIG Joubert, South Africa’s leading rugby referee who handled last year’s Rugby World Cup final in New Zealand, will be the guest speaker at the Sporting Charity breakfast at Victoria Country Club next Wednesday.

The December 5 function, starting at 7 am, is being organised by Azalea Rotary, in conjunction with Joubert, and in aid of Hospice.

A large number of sporting stars will be attending the function and Marc Jury, son of Ron, the former Maritzburg College principal, will be the master of ceremonies.

Jury is the newly-appointed commercial manager for Cricket South Africa and he will also speak on the CSA’s strategy to expand cricket, both professionally and commercially.

Joubert, who was in charge of the weekend Test between Wales and the All Blacks in Cardiff, will talk on “Anecdotes from the world of rugby refereeing”.

The organisers hope to generate further funds for Hospice by auctioning a precious cricket bat, donated by Azalea Rotary, and autographed by many of India’s most famous cricketers, including Rahul Dravid, Harbhajan Singh, Anil Kumble, Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar and Yuvraj Singh.
