Cricket: Pro20 Challenge in closing stages

2010-02-23 00:00

THE National Schools Pro20 Challenge sponsored by Standard Bank is entering the closing stages in each of the provinces.

In KwaZulu-Natal Inland the 47 schools that originally entered have been playing, first, a round-robin among schools close to one another and then knockout stages that are now virtually complete.

Howick, winners of the Midlands and Southern District Unions, will play this afternoon against Pionier, the winners of the Northern KZN and Northern Districts regions.

This game is scheduled to take place at Howick at 2 pm.

The seeded big schools will now be competing in the final stages to see who will play for KZN Inland against the KZN Coastal winners.

The winner of the match at Howick will play against Maritzburg College and Hilton will play against St Charles on March 6, with venues still to be decided.

The winners of these two matches will then play at the Pietermaritzburg Oval to see who will play the Coastals winner to eventually represent KwaZulu-Natal in the finals in Johannesburg.

KZN Coastal has two groups of four schools remaining who will eventually come up with a Coastals winner. The first group is Durban High School, Kearsney, Northwood and Westville.

The other group is an easier group with Glenwood, Clifton, Grantleigh and Umzinto who are due to play one another.

They play a round-robin set of three matches in each group and the winner of each group will then play the final to see who will represent Coastals against Inland.

This last match will be played at Kingsmead, on a date to be confirmed.
