Cricket Week: UKZN playersin SA squad

2010-12-13 00:00

THE University of KwaZulu-Natal returned from the USSASA cricket week at the weekend with plenty to smile about.

Not only did the side reach the Section B final against a star-studded University of Johannesburg (UJ) side, but they also had the honour of seeing two of their players gaining selection to the South African Universities side.

The UKZN outfit lost to UJ by 77 runs, after the Gauteng outfit had clubbed 280 in their 80 overs.

But national honours for Glen Addicott and Ollie Humphries ensured that the week ended on a high note for the KZN side.

Hard-hitting Addicott, who was a regular for the KZN Dolphins in the MTN40 campaign, bludgeoned a century against Rhodes in the semi-finals, a knock which included nine sixes and eight fours.

Addicott also rattled up a 50 off just 27 balls against Central University of Technology.

Joining Addicott in the Universities’ national side is all-rounder Humphries, who toiled manfully on flat tracks during the week.

The national universities team is scheduled to meet up in May next year, although it has not been confirmed whether they will embark on a tour yet.
