Cricket: balgowan boys can tip odds

2011-02-19 00:00

MICHAELHOUSE should attract a comparatively large crowd for their match today against St Charles, in what should be a close game.

In the Highways area there are two matches, at Westville and at Kearsney, who are hosting Hilton and Northwood respectively.

As St Charles have won a greater percentage of their matches they must be favourites, but the Balgowan lads have shown that they are capable of posting a big score and on their home ground they will feel confident.

Much will depend on the fitness of the St Charles bowlers where they have been affected by injuries.

Allrounder Greg Oldfield has been the most prominent player in the Michaelhouse team and he will need others in the batting to help post a big total.

The home side will hope that the quicker bowlers will put early pressure on the St Charles top order where most of their strength lies.

Selected fixtures (home side first): Michaelhouse vs St Charles; Westville vs Hilton; Kearsney vs Northwood; DHS vs Howick; Clifton vs Pinetown; Gelofte vs Hillcrest; Kloof vs Thomas More; Port Shepstone vs St Henrys; Wartburg vs Voortrekker; Alexandra vs Northbury Park; George Campbell vs DHS II
