Cricket: changes to schools’ format

2013-01-22 00:00

THE Sunfoil School’s Challenge takes a slightly different format this year, with primary schools and the smaller high schools in KZN playing a T20 format and the five senior sides playing a round robin tournament over 40 overs.

The participating primary schools are Merchiston, Cordwalles, Winterton, Laddsworth, St Charles, Clifton, Pelham and an MCA XI. This is a knockout event so the winners of each game go through to play semi-finals and then a final on February 25. The first round was held last evening.

The smaller high schools will do the same and their final also takes place on February 25.

The high schools are are Wartburg, Treverton, Weston, Alexandra, Carter, Howick, Voortrekker and an MCA XI. Wartburg play Treverton at 3.30 pm today and Weston play Alex at 7 pm.

The 40-over games between St Charles, Maritzburg College, Hilton, Michaelhouse and a Presidents XI begin with a match tomorrow between the Presidents XI and St Charles. On Thursday Presidents XI play against Michaelhouse. The final of the high schools’ competition will be held on February 28 with March 1 a reserve day.
