Crusaders, Uthungulu showdown

2014-03-27 00:00

PREMIER League 50-over champions Crusaders meet Uthungulu in the final of the Castle Premier T20 competition at Kingsmead on April 5. Both sides finished on top of their respective A and B leagues after Crusaders crushed Topham on Sunday and Uthungulu had already played all their matches to occupy top spot in their league.

Crusaders met Topham and were never challenged in cruising to a nine-wicket win. Topham could only manage 98-5, Singitha Gcilitshana (30) fighting a lone battle with the willow. In reply, Riaan Minnie (35) and Mike Alexander (34*) were untroubled in knocking off the runs and setting up a visit to Kingsmead early next month.

Berea Rovers, beaten earlier in the competition by Rovers and thereby failing to qualify for the final, finished off their T20 campaign with a three-wicket win against African Warriors. Warriors posted 110-7 in their 20 overs, Victor Xulu contributing 34. Rovers made heavy weather of crossing the line, finishing on 111-7 with Neville Talbot adding 48.

Nhlanhla Nkwanyana showed character with the ball, claiming 3-35 in 3.5 overs and Dolphins quick Nthokozisi Shezi was menacing in nabbing 3-6 in three overs.
