Crusaders cruise past United’s total to win

2014-03-20 00:00

IN the Premier T20 League A, Premier League champions Crusaders took on Chatsworth United in a crunch game on Sunday, winning by six wickets to stay ahead of the chasing pack.

United called correctly and opted to bat on what looked a great strip but unfortunately they came unstuck against controlled, tight bowling from the experienced Crusaders outfit. They struggled to 102-9 in their 20 overs, thanks to Tshepo Moreki (2-20), Kyle Morrison (2-24), Kyle Simmonds (3-17) and Rob Clift (1-8).

It was always going to be an attainable total for Crusaders and they cruised past the total in the 14th over, finishing on 105-4.

Riaan Minnie did the business with a solid 51 and for United, Dolphins spinner Keshav Maharaj fought a lone battle with the ball, taking all four Crusaders wickets for 20 runs.

Berea Rovers, also in the A league, enjoyed a comfortable nine-wicket win against Topham, chasing 102.

Thabiso Ndlovu (4-17) had the Topham batsmen on the defensive and Rovers’ in-form batsman Craig Currin continued his purple patch following his undefeated century last week, smashing 31*. With Dolphins opener Cameron Delport (58), there was never any doubt who the winners would be.

In the B league, Uthungulu stretched their advantage at the top of the table with a six-wicket win against Southern Natal on Saturday and repeating the dose against DHS Rhythm on Sunday.
