Cuppa for Cansa

2011-07-11 00:00

THE Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) is turning 80 and you can help it celebrate by hosting or drinking a smart “cuppa” to raise funds.

“Cuppa for Cansa” is a fun campaign that encourages people to enjoy a cup of their favourite beverage in support of a worthy cause.

Your Cuppa event can be big or small, casual, serious or whatever takes your fancy.

Cansa South Coast will be launching its Cuppa for Cansa at the Port Shepstone Country Club from 6 pm tomorrow.

Carien Hamman, manageress of the central business region of Cansa, believes that up to 40% of all cancer can be prevented by making smart choices and embracing a balanced lifestyle to help reduce the risk of cancer.

Shoprite and Checkers are the main sponsors of Cuppa for Cansa 2011. With Cansa they have produced leaflets for the public with advice about how to make healthy food and drink choices.

Among the nutrition tips is that there should be one portion of protein, one portion of fats, one cup of raw or cooked veggies and one slow-release carbohydrate or starch in every meal.

The leaflets are available at Cansa offices or at the consumer boards at Money Market counters in Shoprite and Checkers stores countrywide.

For more information about the launch or to register as a Cuppa for Cansa host, call James Jones at 039 682 7680 or e-mail jjones@cansa.org.za.
