Currie Cup: Free State make changes

2008-07-16 00:00

WHILE Sharks coach John Plumtree is waiting on the fitness reports of several players before naming his line-up, opposing coach Naka Drotske yesterday announced his Free State Cheetahs team for Saturday’s Currie Cup clash in Bloemfontein.

Springbok Meyer Bosman’s hamstring injury has forced Drotske to include SA U20 centre Robert Ebersohn — a Sevens Springbok — in midfield in one of three changes to the starting lineup that lost to the Blue Bulls at Loftus last weekend.

At hooker, Jaco van Zyl gets a rare chance to start after the Springbok call-up to Adriaan Strauss.

David de Villiers replaces Flip van der Merwe at lock, in an effort to bolster the Cheetahs’ lineout.

Springbok flank Kabamba Floors is back on the bench after sitting out last weekend’s match for disciplinary reasons.

The team is:

Bevin Fortuin; Eddie Fredericks, JW Jonker, Robert Ebersohn, Jongi Nokwe; Chris Rossouw, Neil Powell; Schalk van der Merwe, Hendro Scholtz (capt.), Heinrich Brussow, Barend Pieterse, David de Villiers, Kobus Calldo, Jaco du Toit, Wian du Preez. Replacements: Richardt Strauss, Phillip Lemmer, Flip van der Merwe, Kabamba Floors, Tewis de Bruyn, Hendrik Meyer, Fabian Juries. - Sports Reporter.
