DA campaigns in remote village

2013-05-13 00:00

THE Democratic Alliance is set to take the remote rural Ward 18 in Umzimkhulu in Wednesday’s by-elections.

Party leader Hellen Zille addressed party supporters at a rally held in the area on Saturday.

Scores of people attended the rally, which was held at Paninkukhu rural village in Umzimkhulu.

Bad weather could not stop hundreds of community members from attending the rally, giving support to DA candidate, Jabulani Chiya.

Chiya is a former ANC councillor who became an independent councillor and then joined the DA.

This move has necessitated the call for the by-election.

Zille said: “Power is in people’s hands. It’s high time that people should make the right choices when voting.”

Zille and other leaders of her party, including Lindiwe Mazibuko, Sizwe Mchunu and Francois Rogers, were warmly welcomed by the rural headman, Elias Ndlangisa, who urged people to vote for the DA.

Chiya urged communities to have confidence in him and vote for him on Wednesday.
