DA repeats call for election

2008-02-12 00:00

Cape Town — The leader of the Democratic Alliance in Parliament, Sandra Botha, yesterday pushed ahead with her decision to introduce a motion calling for Parliament to be dissolved in terms of the Constitution in order for a fresh election to be held.

Botha accused Mbeki of failing to confront the problems facing South Africa head-on, as well as to hold anybody to account for the energy crisis.

Independent Democrats leader Patricia de Lille gave notice of a motion of no confidence in Mbeki and yesterday gave notice of a motion calling on him and his cabinet to resign because of the government’s failure to prevent the prevailing energy crisis.

Botha said that at this point of his tenure, South Africans "do not believe" Mbeki any more.
