THE National E-Learning Programme yesterday rolled out its schools initiative to Dambuza in the greater Edendale area with Higher Education Minister Blaze Nzimande in attendence.

AN e-learning centre, financed by ICT services provider Dimension Data, was set up in partnership with the Dambuza Community Development Trust that comprises of a computer skills training centre and a community bakery.

There are already e-learning centres at kwaPata High School and Nyonithwele High School.

Barbara Muzata, communications manager of Dimension Data Middle East and Africa, said the two schools in Dambuza will gain access to premium technology to support the school curriculum.

About 350 pupils will benefit in subjects such as mathematics, physical science, English home language, English first additional language, life science and accounting.

The programme covers the curriculums for Grades 10, 11 and 12.

Each school has been trained to use the system.

“The programme harnesses the capabilities of the Internet and multimedia technologies to bring the subject curriculum to life, reinforces lessons, and promotes active learning,” said Muzata.

All e-learning content is endorsed by the Basic Education Department.

Zandile Mbele, Dimension Data’s transformation executive said, “Dimension Data is not just about business, it’s also about using our technology to enable education to empower young people to go out and fulfil their potential, bringing their skills and experience back to their communities and inspiring others to do the same”.
