Defence: Sisulu spent R40,5 mln on VIP flights

2012-06-14 00:00

CAPE TOWN —  The former minister of defence, Lindiwe Sisulu, has in the past three years used her department’s VIP planes to fly her 268 times at a total cost of R40,5 million.

Over the past six months the department received repeated requests — including from official parliamentary questions — on the use of VIP jets, but it had until yesterday been remiss at answering the questions, claiming the answers were “confidential”.

President Jacob Zuma on Tuesday moved Sisulu from her post to that of minister of Public Service and Administration.

Yesterday her former department provided a ream of answers to the parliamentary questions.

Ndivhuwo Mabaya, Sisulu’s former spokesperson, said the answers had not been provided because the minister was transferred.
