Delightful Bollywood comedy plays it straight

ASHWINI Chaudhary, director of Jodi Breakers, is best remembered for almost ending his career by walking out of Subhash Ghai’s film Good Boy Bad Boy.

Jodi Breakers is an upbeat modern urban comedy. The basic idea is dysfunctional relationships, which eventually lead to break-ups. It tells you to break the shackles and find a path of your own after love goes wrong.

Divorced Sid Khanna (Madhavan) takes up a job as a break-up specialist on the rebound, and he doesn’t believe in the institution of marriage. Sid meets Sonali (Bipasha Basu) at a pub run by Nano (Omi Vaidya) and asks her to be his partner in the Jodi Breakers business, separating troubled married couples.

All is going smoothly until they come across Sid’s ex-wife.

Maggie (Dipannita Sharma), Mark (Milind Soman),and Mark’s granny Modanna (Helen) are their next clients. By mistake Sid and Sonali end up making a ruckus of their relationship and the incident turns their lives upside down.

How they solve the problem and bring the situation under control again form the crux of the story, with some hilarious scenes and melodrama.

Madhavan as Sid is brilliant and has great comic timing. He communicates his sentiments flawlessly. Bipasha Basu oozes lots of oomph and has a great on-screen chemistry with Madhavan. Omi Vadiaya of 3 Idiots fame is totally wasted and capable of a much better performance. Milind, Dipannita and Helen execute their roles with finesse. Jodi Breakers has all the ingredients of a Bollywood masala. Chaudhary keeps the drama straightforward and unpretentious. With its comedy, twists and melodrama, this film is a delightful watch.
