Delivery man who delights in his customers

2011-01-26 00:00

TIAGO’S Port Shepstone delivery man, Ernest Mlambo (25), has been living on the South Coast for six years. He started his job delivering food around the Port Shepstone area on a bicycle for two years before he was able to buy himself a motorbike.

The Witness spoke to the bubbly character yesterday.

You have been on the South Coast for a while now. How do you find it here?

MLAMBO: I like it. The weather is really nice and I like it when the visitors come from “GP”.

It’s bucketing with rain today. I hope you aren’t on your bike?

No, no. I’m riding around in a car today.

Do you enjoy your job?

Yes, I always have fun with the customers. They are always smiling and they give me nice tips most of the time.

What do you see yourself doing in the future?

I see myself owning my own business in the food industry; there is a lot of money there.

What do you do on your time off?

I play music, read the newspapers and watch football — I love football.

Chiefs or Pirates?

Chiefs. I am an Amakhosi man.

Who is your favourite player?

Tshabalala. But I think we are about to lose him to an overseas club.

Are you going to be voting in the local government elections?

Yes. We as human beings must be striving to secure the things that we need in our area.

Where are you off to after this?

Back to the office; I have another order there for Marburg. I’m a busy man.

How do you deal with rude customers?

Some of them can be very rude. I just do my business, try to understand the customer’s needs and always leave happy.

Wife and kids?

Not now. It is better to be alone now that things are expensive until one day when I can afford to settle down.
