Descendant straight from the heavens

NEXT Tuesday the Maritzburg Musicians’ Club (MMC) hosts Shannon Hope and Superlative — a bit of something for everyone.

Recently returned from her Cape tour, Shannon Hope, a popular artist among Pietermaritzburg audiences, brings her original songs, distinctive voice and keyboards to the stage once again.

Having just returned from a month-long tour of the Eastern and Western Cape, Hope will showcase material from her forthcoming album Fight A New Day expected for release in winter this year. Tugging on South African hear strings since her debut solo release in 2009, with her intriguingly powerful songs, she has earned a reputation as one of the hardest-touring, self-managed solo artists on the national circuit, delivering an intensely honest personal commentary in a vocal epic that has mesmerised audiences country wide.

Hope’s “clever concoction of heartfelt melancholy laced with a healthy dose of quirky quips make for a thoroughly entertaining evening. Her virtuosity as an instrumentalist is breathtaking and her voice is descendant straight from the heavens, a strong and emotive vehicle for her obviously intelligent lyrics,” Malcolm Burger of Peer Music said.

“The powerful combination of her singing and song-writing is sure to leave any audience captured,” Isabel Rawlins said in the National Arts Festival Review last year.

Superlative performed its debut set at Splashy Fen this year and the MMC is very pleased to be able to give Pietermaritzburg a chance to hear this up-and-coming band from Durban.

Red Door is located at 5 Quarry Road, Pietermaritzburg. Entrance is R30 and the evening kicks off at 8 pm sharp. For more information on Shannon Hope, please visit www.shannonhope.co.za — Gig Guide Reporter.
