Devnarain murder: two questioned

2009-03-16 00:00

A man and a woman have been taken in for questioning in connection with the murder of six-year-old Raylin Devnarain and the attack on his mother, Pradantha Devnarain (28), in their Northdale home.

Inspector Joey Jeevan said police cannot comment further on the matter at this stage as they do not want to jeopardise the case.

The young boy, who was bludgeoned to death with a hammer, was buried on Sunday while his mother lay unconscious in the intensive care unit at MediClinic.

Devnarain is still unconscious and in a critical condition.

Superintendent Hendry Budhram reported yesterday that the police are following positive leads and that they will investigate any possibility.

Yesterday, The Witness reported that Zamo Eric Hadebe, the Devnarains’ gardener, who was allegedly seen in the yard before the murder, is the key to solving the brutal crime.

It is believed that Hadebe’s girlfriend, who worked at the Devnarain home, was dismissed a short while before the killing. This happened after an altercation with Devnarain.

Police have not said whether Hadebe or his girlfriend have been questioned yet.
