• 10 am. Karin Makin from Peters’ Gate Herbs will be speaking on kitchen gardening at The Witness demonstration gardens in Alexandra Park. If you bring a copy of The Witness advertisement the entrance fee is R5. If not, entrance is R10. Tea and refreshments are for sale after the event.

• 9 am-noon. Introduction to watercolours and inks with Penny Forder. Learn the basic skills and techniques of the traditional watercolourist as well as new approaches to the landscape. Desmond Colborne, art historian, will be speaking on “Incredible India — mystery, misery and magic”. Members’ fee R20. Visitors are welcome, cost R30 includes light refreshments. THURSDAY

• 7 am-10.30 am. Market at Alexandra Road (opposite police station). Fresh veg, fruit, honey and crafts.

• 9 am-noon. Creative Thursdays: 2008 theme is “Changing Our Habits — Wearables” — which probably means different things to different people. The theme for April is designing for a custom-dyed garment. R340 Macs members and R395 non-Macs members for four sessions. Today is a one-day workshop covering reactive dyes, their properties and the process of using them — R120 per person for this session if not booked for the month.
