Did faulty electrics spark fire?

2008-10-06 00:00

THE fire in a building in Timber Street in the city centre on Sunday could not have been sparked by a gas canister as was earlier suggested, video evidence has proved.

Yesterday The Witness was shown CCTV footage of the building taken just before and during the fire. The footage suggests that the fire could have been caused by a fault in the electric box next to the Kara Nicha’s outlet.

The footage shows that the fire started at about noon on Sunday. Smoke can be seen coming from the electricity box area in the passage. As the smoke engulfs the hallway, sparks can be seen coming from the electricity box, while the gas canister is unaffected.

Minutes later the area is covered in smoke and the wooden door of the electricity box area starts burning. The footage has been submitted to investigators. The building was still without power yesterday.
