Diplomat to talk in city

THE South African Institute of International Affairs and the Pietermaritzburg Chamber of Business are to host a talk by Dr Nicola Brewer, the British High Commissioner to South Africa.

Brewer is a career diplomat who took up the position of high commissioner to South Africa in July 2009. Prior to this appointment, she was the first chief executive of the Equality and Human Rights Commission.

Brewer trained and worked as a teacher before entering the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 1983. She completed a PhD in linguistics in 1988, and in 2009 the University of Leeds awarded her an honorary degree in law.

Her talk will take place on Wednesday, November 17, at 12.30 pm at Chamber House, Royal Showgrounds.

Costs are R80 for members of insistute, R100 for members of chamber, and R120 for non-members. Students pay R40 on production of their student card. A finger lunch will be served and a cash bar is available. to book, e-mail function@pcb.org.za or call Lorna Jones at 033 345 2747.
