Dolphins ‘to start winning’

2012-09-26 00:00

WITH new coach Lance Klusener and skipper Daryn Smit leading the way for the 2012/13 season, the Dolphins are chomping at the bit ahead of the opening Sunfoil Series four-day clash against the Lions at the Wanderers tomorrow.

At the official season launch at Kingsmead yesterday, Klusener and Smit were confident of restoring Dolphins cricket to where it should be — a respected franchise not to be taken lightly.

Klusener said: “ We have had a productive pre-season and it’s time to start winning.

“We are focused on playing and aggressive, exciting brand of cricket which will hopefully bring some silverware come the end of the season. Playing to win is the trend for the season.”

Smit was equally positive, saying: “The time for talk has finished and it’s what happens on the pitch that counts.

“It’s only a few hours until we kick off the season and such is the confidence in the camp we cannot wait to get into the action.

“We have a great young squad, with some new signings and are balanced in … batting, fast and spin bowling and fielding.”

There’s a postive atmosphere around Kingsmead, something which has been lacking in past seasons and the players are clearly determined to get off to a positive start in the four-day campaign, unlike last season where a single win late in the season reflected a dismal record.
