Don’t forget the admin and finance function of your SMME

2010-09-30 00:00

SMALL, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs) have received much needed attention internationally, nationally and locally.

The focus on this sector could be seen at the recent SMME Fair which is hosted annually by the eThekwini Municipality. The event has seen rapid growth since inception and the 12th, and most recent, fair hosted was supported by over 500 exhibitors. The fair was an excellent platform for SMMEs to market their goods and services and more importantly create business linkages and networks which will support the growth of their businesses. The SMME sector is crucial to the development and growth of the economy. This sector has the ability to contribute meaningfully to job creation and the spreading of wealth. While we must acknowledge the advantages of this vital sector, we would be remiss not to recognise the difficulties faced by these entrepreneurs. The legislation, while becoming simpler, is still complex and demanding. These business owners are more focused on getting out there and making business happen and this leads in many cases to a neglect of the administration and back office function in the business. It is not always possible for the SMME to afford a full finance function, but the neglect of this aspect of the business often leads to the demise of what could be a thriving SMME.

KPMG understands the issues faced by the SMME sector, recognises the importance of this sector to the economy and acknowledges the need for big business to support this sector. For this reason, KPMG this year was an exhibitor at the SMME Fair.

KPMG has dedicated teams of individuals that understand the needs of the SMME sector, have a vast amount of knowledge and experience in the sector, and are committed to the success of their SMME clients. These teams focus on accounting and accounting officer services, corporate secretarial services and tax compliance services for the business.

Being an entrepreneur is challenging at the best of times and the chances of business success will definitely be enhanced by partnering with the right teams and organisations.
