‘Don't touch me on my studio' inspires the release of two rap song re-mixes

2010-04-10 00:00

LESS than a day after Afrikaner Weerstandsbeweging (AWB) general secretary Andre Visagie unleashed his anger on political analyst Lebohang Pheko in the eNews studio, two rap songs have been released about the drama.

The music video (Don’t) Touch Me On My Studio was re-mixed and posted on YouTube by Cape Town-based photographer Neil John Smith (37) on Thursday morning. He combined Visagie’s “don’t touch me” and eNews Africa 360 host Chris Maroleng’s “don’t touch me on my studio” utterances together with the Show Dem song by local group JR featuring HHP.

Another song, Touch Me On My Studio, is a re-mix of American rap artist MC Hammer’s Can’t Touch This. The producer of the re-mix, which also features the Visagie, Moroleng and Pheko argument, is unknown.

Talking to Weekend Witness, Smith said he was surprised to discover, when he visited YouTube yesterday morning, that more than 7 000 people from all over the world had listened to his re-mix.

“Despite that there were so many people who had listened to it, I didn’t think much about what I had done and deleted the song after my friends told me it was a piece of rubbish.”

He said, after becoming aware of the interest the song has generated, he is working on returning it.

He said it was a coincidence that, when he was watching the eNews drama on the Internet, the Show Dem song was also playing in the background.

“I was in my [photographic] studio when I came across the drama. Something told me to re-mix it with the song that was playing in the background,” he said.
