Doplhins: batsman Bopara heading south for SuperSport series

2010-09-24 00:00

HOT on the heels of securing the services of Kevin Pietersen for the first two matches of the Supersport Series, the KZN Dolphins will have another England star on the books.

The Dolphins are understood to be on the verge of confirming the signature of Ravi Bopara for their next two four-day matches and the entire MTN40 Domestic Championship.

Bopara, a stylish top-order batsman who has fallen out of favour with the England selectors, will add flair and class to the Dolphins’ batting card if the move materialises.

Though no confirmation has been forthcoming from Kingsmead, it is understood that Bopara will take over the reins from Pietersen, and will likely use his summer safari as a late bid for a place in the England World Cup squad.

The Dolphins, who had an excellent batting display on their trip to Benoni, are clearly well equipped when it comes to run-getters. Yesterday, Glen Addicott added a century to the four tons made in the Dolphins’ first innings in their high-scoring affair against Easterns.

Coach Graham Ford said this week that the challenge would be bowling sides out, but the arrival of Imran Tahir — to add to the exciting Tabriaz Shamsi — should see plenty of sides think long and hard before giving the Dolphins the chance to bowl last.
