‘Dorning had much to give SA’

2009-11-14 00:00

KZN Premier Dr Zweli Mkhize delivered a moving tribute to former senior government official Warwick Dorning, during his funeral in Howick yesterday morning.

Mkhize told attendees to remember Dorning with a smile, despite their sadness and distress over the cause of his death.

“It’s sad, because death has robbed us of a man we so loved. He was dedicated to his work, and still had a lot to contribute to the building of our country,” said Mkhize.

He described Dorning as a man with tremendous skills, who was highly trained and competent in his field.

He was more than a colleague and they shared a common interest in farming and, after retiring, he promised to come back and work with them again, said Mkhize

“His family must know that they are not alone because [Dorning] was special to all of us. We have been robbed of a friend, a relative and a man who has contributed greatly to this country,” Mkhize added.

Among those who came to pay their respects were prominent government officials, and Mkhize proved his respect for the deceased by attending the ceremony having just returned from London the day before.
