Double murder: Police appeal for information

2013-03-19 00:00

POLICE in Ematimatolo near Wartburg are looking for information about a double murder and hijacking that happened in the area on Sunday morning.

Spokesperson Lieutenant Joey Jeevan said that police received a report about an injured person lying on the edge of a cliff in Emakhabeleni in Ematimatolo.

“On arrival, police found the body of an unknown man lying on the ground about eight metres from the edge of the cliff,” said Jeevan.

“His legs were tied with a rope and his shoelaces were found around his neck.

“Another seriously injured man was found nearby.”

She said both men had multiple stab wounds.

“Emergency services were contacted … the injured man died of his injuries.”

Jeevan said the police believe the pair had been driving in their white Nissan bakkie in Greytown in the early hours of Sunday morning when they were hijacked.

“The suspects tied up the one victim and stabbed him multiple times, fatally wounding him.

“It is believed that the second victim may have been forced to drive the vehicle to the Emakhabeleni area and thereafter he was also stabbed multiple times, before being thrown off the cliff,” Jeevan said.

She urged anyone who might have information to call the branch commander at Ematimatolo police station, Detective Warrant Officer Mandla Khumalo, at 033 445 9332 or

082 462 9075.

Anonymous callers can phone Crime Stop at 08600 10111.
