Drowning: family thank searchers

2011-07-15 00:00

THE family of Cobus Coetzee returned to their home in Pretoria yesterday after keeping a vigil on Shelly Beach for their 22-year-old son who was washed out to sea in Margate on July 7.

His father, Fredrick Coetzee, said the family will continue to communicate closely with the officials in Margate in case he is found.

The third-year journalism student at Pretoria University was on holiday in Margate with a church tour group when he is thought to have drowned.

Since his disappearance there have been many search-and-rescue efforts by authorities, friends and family and the local community.

“We would like to thank everybody for coming out and supporting us and working with us to find him,” said Cotzee.

Since the Margate police suspended their efforts, a missing persons’ group, the Pink Ladies Organisation, has taken up the search. Debbie Rechner of Pink Ladies appealed to beachgoers from Margate to Ramsgateto look for a body. Call Rechner at 072 214 7439 or Warrant Officer Pretorius at 079 514 5077.
