Dududu: ‘indescribable joy’ as eight receive wheelchairs

2011-02-23 00:00

THE Vulamehlo Municipality has joined forces with local NGO Robo Tube, the Harley Davidson Owners’ Group and Quad Para to donate wheelchairs to disabled people in the area.

A presentation initiated by the Vulamehlo Disability Forum took place at the municipal hall in Dududu on Saturday. About 150 people, mostly disabled, attended the function. The day marked the first phase of the project and eight wheelchairs were handed over.

The Vulamehlo Municipality PRO, Zime Gcaba, said the first phase of the project has been encouraging.

“There was indescribable joy written on the faces of the beneficiaries of the wheelchairs as their suffering was to be no more,” he said.

“Some relatives could not help but shed a tear as their loved ones instantly became mobile.”

Busisiwe Duma, the mayor of Vulamehlo Municipality, expressed her appreciation to all the parties who had made the presentation possible and pledged to assist a child afflicted with cerebral palsy, by buying him a pram, diapers and special toys.
