Durban July: KZN set for R500 MLN boom with another sold-out event

2011-06-30 00:00

AS punters and socialites prepare to descend on Durban for the Vodacom Durban July at Greyville racecourse on Saturday, KwaZulu-Natal is expected to be boosted by a cash injection of an estimated R500 million.

Another sold-out event is expected, with scores of out-of-town visitors expected to attend.

Research at the Vodacom Durban July recently found that just over a quarter of the visitors to the event came from outside the province, triggering a massive spend on travel, accommodation, transport and spending liberally at restaurants and tourist attractions.

The out-of-town visitors spend an average of R8 333,20 on the weekend visit to the Vodacom Durban July, adding up to a cash injection of R119 million.

A further 34% of visitors are from outside Durban, and research shows their average spend to be R1 300 on the day. — WR.
